Some people are going to look at this and say "Why the heck did New DeSignz make a cosmetic upgrade for the Impulse?"  Now I can understand what you are thinking, but the difference with the New DeSignz I-Cover is in what you are NOT thinking about.

Why do you need a New DeSignz Vision I-Cover?

Ok, the purpose of the stock Vision eye cover is to protect the ribbon cable that connects the eye mounted on the side of the Impulse to the daughter board.  Hopefully everyone understands this much.  So why the new cover??  There are a couple reasons:

1. It's happened to you at least once, it happens to everyone, you are having the game of your life and then SPLAT!  Someone just shot  the side of your Impulse.  Or worse yet, you got bunkered.  If it was a good day it would have been on the left side of your marker, but no, it was right before the Vision cover and there is paint all over the place.  You clean up and get back into the game.

Later you get home and try to clean things up, the problem is to get under the eye cover you first need to separate the grip frame from the body, then take out the ball detent just to get the eye cover off.  THIS is where the New DeSignz I-Cover can save you lots of time and effort.  Because the I-Cover is aluminum there is no need to secure it between the body and the grip frame, so it does not have the little tab on the bottom like the stock eye cover.

If you had the I-Cover in the first place you could have simply removed the ball detent and I-cover, wiped things down, put your I-cover and ball detent back in place and been back in action with a completely clean Impulse.

2. OK, so maybe you did not get shot in the side of your gun.  Even worse, you were ripping on a sting of shots and then CHOP!  You forgot to turn your Vision eye on.  OK, you would never do such a thing, but your friend that wanted to borrow your Impulse just did.  Now you have to clean your barrel, bolt and ball detents.

Once you start cleaning things you realize this time it's more of a mess than usual.  Looks like there is paint on the eye.  Better remove the eye and wipe it off.  The only problem is now you need to remove the grip frame just to get the little eye cover off.

I'm sure you can see where I am going with this.  With an I-cover you have easy access to the Vision eye.  By quickly remove a detent and the I-Cover you can get to the Vision eye, to wipe it off, re-assemble and be back in action.

3. The New DeSignz I-Cover is milled to work with the eye system on the  Wicked Air Sportz Equalizer board for the Impulse.  The Smart Parts Vision eye cover will not work and can not be modified to work.
4. It looks cool.  Here is another area that you can customize on your Impulse.  While it is not milled for a Vision Jewel, there is a flat surface that any jewel or sticker would stick to.

If you desired, you could have the I-Cover anodized to match a specific color scheme.  NOTE: The anodizing would have to be done by someone other than New DeSignz.  New DeSignz only offers I-Covers in the standard New DeSignz colors pictured above.

What if I have a Custom Impulse, will the I-Cover fit?

The I-Cover fits great on my Adrenalin Impulse, pictured below.  I can only imagine that it will also fit on just about every other Custom Impulse out there.

Installation:

  1. Because the the grip frame holds the bottom of the stock Vision eye cover in place you will need to remove the grip frame from the body.
  2. Next, remove the ball detent that holds the stock Vision cover in place.
  3. Separate the ball detent from the Vision eye cover.  You might not need to do this, but mine stuck together.
  4. Put the grip frame back on the body.
  5. Place the New DeSignz I-Cover in place.
  6. Screw your ball detent back in.
  7. Done!

I read in one of the forums someone was concerned about adding additional weight to their Impulse by replacing the Smart Parts Vision cover with the I-Cover.  I still laugh when I think about it.  The I-cover weighs next to nothing.  It's only Aluminum.

I hope I write higher better reviews than the quality of the pictures I take!!  Pictured below is a New DeSignz I-Cover on the left and a stock Smart Parts Vision eye cover on the right.  The image contains both a front and profile.  Like a mug shot (so I've heard)
