New DeSignz Impulse Hammer Cap From the Web site: Just when you thought nothing else can be done. Guess again, however this time you can add looks as well as great performance. If you have the slotted style cap you'll notice its hollow. Replace it and you will see a performance gain. For newer Impulse owners its about customization. Great custom looks and performance.
Testing the Hammer Cap: The Hammer cap test consisted of the the original Smart Parts hammer cap and a New DeSignz hammer Cap. A Vision Impulse was used with a New DeSignz Angled Full Flow installed. The entire gun was cleaned and lubed, including the Max-Flow, prior to the test. The Dwell was not adjusted once the test started. The output pressure on the max-flow was set at 125psi. For the test the air source was a NitroDuck 90/4500 preset compressed air tank running on gun. The paint used in the test was Nitro Duck First Choice paint and the barrel was a 14" Freak with a .691 insert. The paint was a little old and that was the reason for a slightly larger insert than normal. This explains some of the shot deviation.
As you can see once the hollowed out hammer cap is replaced with a hammer cap that is solid, there is a substantial gain in velocity. How do I know if I NEED a new cap? You need one because it's cool!! But, beyond the cool factor, that's simple, remove your existing hammer cap and look on the back. It it's hollow you NEED a new cap. If it's solid you do not need a new cap. If you currently have an allen key opening on your hammer cap chances are VERY good that your hammer cap is solid but you should check to be sure.
Installation:
NOTE: The original Smart Parts hammer cap with an allen key takes a 3/16 allen.
