Comments
So you want a magnetic trigger, but do not
want to send your trigger frame to an airsmith or Smart Parts to drill and
tap it. NO PROBLEM!!! The new Pro Mag trigger from New Designz
is a drop in magnetic trigger for just about any stock Impulse trigger
frame. Below is a picture of a Red Pro Mag trigger installed in a
Silver trigger frame. Notice how it sits so close to the trigger
frame.

The next picture is an inverted view of the
trigger frame. This is done in an attempt to show the location of
the adjustment points. They are all external so once the trigger is
in place, it is easy to set it just the way you like it, without having to
take everything apart just to turn a set screw an 1/8 of a turn.

Like all externally adjustable triggers
installation is simple, out with the old, in with the new and
adjust. Like the original New DeSignz trigger, all the set screws are
stainless steel and all the set screws have had loc-tite applied.
Simply adjust the trigger and you are done. No need to apply loc-tite
and wait for it to dry.
How do the various set screws work?
- Post Travel
This allows you to adjust the amount of travel, often referred to as
play in the trigger After the trigger engages the micro-switch (fires
the Impulse). New DeSignz continues to be the only company that
offers the innovative nylon tip on the post travel set screw so the
set screw does not scratch up the nice ano job on your trigger frame..
- Switch Actuation This is the set
screw that pushes on the micro-switch, causing your Impulse to fire.
This set screw is not just a normal set screw found on other
triggers. This set screw is flat on top to give you optimal
contact with the micro-switch.
- Pre Travel & Side-to-Side play
While the Pro Mag trigger is manufactured to fit perfect in the
trigger frame, the set screw will allow you to "lock" the
trigger to the front pivot pin and remove all side-to-side play.
In doing this you also control amount of play the trigger has before the
micro-switch is engaged.
Do you prefer the "pull" or
the "push"?
The hardest decision when installing this
trigger is do you want the magnets to pull the trigger back (away from the
activation point) or push the trigger away. Most magnetic triggers
use magnetic attraction to pull the trigger back into a "ready to
fire" position. This is usually a unique feeling when compared
to a spring return.
I personally preferred the pushing action
of the magnetic resistance, often referred to as "reverse
polarity". The closer the two magnets get together
the stronger they push away from each other. This allowed me to easily find the
sweet spot and hold the trigger in place and rip out strings of
paint. I could not do this when the magnets were attracted to each
other because it would always return the trigger to the full "ready
to fire" position.
What if I don't like the magnetic trigger?
So you tried the magnetic trigger and
decide it's not for you....no problem. Because this is a drop in
magnetic trigger your frame has not been modified. Just remove the
threaded magnet and put the tension spring back in. Adjust to your
liking and that is it. You have a great trigger that is controlled
by spring tension.
The Details
- COLOR: Available in many
different colors. Currently: Blue, Purple, Green, Red, Silver and
Black.
- MSRP: $29.95
(the same price as the original New DeSignz Trigger)
- MANUFACTURER:
New DeSignz, www.newdesignz.com
- PROs: I love
this magnetic trigger so much that I am looking to replace the after market
trigger frame on my Impulse so I can use this trigger. Yes it is that
nice!
- CONs: This
trigger is machined to fit tight in the trigger frame. While this is a
good thing from the perspective of side-to-side play, I found that it was a
little tricky (not impossible) to get the trigger in the trigger frame.
This should not scare anyone away, but be prepared.
