New DeSignz HE Ram Housing
From the Web site:
Impulse high efficiency or (HE)
performance ram housing. This piece gets rid of even more wasted
volume, here's how. You can see the channeled air passages. The area
around the milled air path has been made larger to take up the wasted
volume. So now when you fire your Impulse the air gets right to work,
moving the ram shaft forward. The area around the stock ram housing
has to get filled first before the ram will move. This alone will add
many more shots per tank while again adding the pure custom look.
-
Adds 150 to 200+ shots
- Includes solid hammer cap
- Comes supplied with internal -009 O-ring
pre-installed, reuse all other O-rings and both bumpers from your
stock ram housing assembly.
*Available Red, Black, Green, Purple, Blue &
Silver.
How does it work?
The New DeSignz HE Ram Assembly reduces the
wasted volume of air needed to move the Ram forward and back. This
is done by increasing the size of the holes that transfer the air to both
the front and the back of the ram, while at the same time reducing the
number of holes from 4 to 2. When the air is sent from the solenoid
to the ram, it enters toward the front of the outside of the Ram housing,
this is where the ring is. The air is then guided down the two
channels to the holes. On the stock ram, this space is all open so
there is a larger volume of air needed to engage the ram.
The air needed to return the Ram to the
non-firing position has been altered in the same manner. Two larger
holes have replaced the 4 smaller holes and the chamber outside the ram
housing where the air transferred to the front of the ram, has also been
reduced. The tweaking of these air passages allows the HE RAM
assembly to be more efficient adding both shot count and to the
responsiveness of the Ram (quicker smoother cycling).
Added benefits include a smaller o-ring to
seal the Ram Housing to the ram and a solid ram cap. Some older
impulses have hollow ram caps and it has been proven that the hollow cap
decreases efficiency.

Installation Instructions:
This can be a little tricky. Follow
the instructions closely and TAKE YOUR TIME!!
- Remove the Hammer assembly.
- Remove the Hammer Cap.
- Clean out any Dow 33 from behind the
ram.
- For the next step you will need a
1/8" Allen key. The next step involves removing the hammer
from the stock ram shaft. To do this you will first need to heat
the hammer to loosen the green loc-tite that is used to hold it in
place.
I recently learned a GREAT trick for
removing the hammer form the ram shaft. Instead of a hair dryer
or a lighter, use boiling water. Just remove all the o-rings
from the hammer assembly. Once the water is boiling, extend the
ram forward so it is open. Put on an oven mitt or something like
it to protect your hand. Just submerse the hammer, not the
entire hammer assembly, in the boiling water for about 1 minute, maybe
a little longer. Remove the hammer from the water and be careful
because it's HOT. Should unscrew VERY easily. When you
feel that you have loosened the loc-tite, you will need to grip the
hammer in a fashion that will not destroy it and use the 1/8"
allen key to remove the ram shaft. The key here is DO NOT TRASH
THE HAMMER, unless you have a new one to replace it.
- Once the hammer is removed from the ram
shaft, remove the ram shaft from the hammer assembly. Do not
lose either of the bumpers. That's right, there are two bumpers,
one on the outside of the hammer assembly to protect the hammer from
hitting the assembly and one on the INSIDE to protect the ram shaft
from hitting the hammer assembly. NOTE: If either one of
these bumpers are not installed, you will risk damaging your hammer
assembly.
- Verify that the internal o-ring is inside your HE Ram housing.
If for any reason it is not, you must use the one from your stock
housing.
- Transfer all other o-rings from your stock ram housing to the NDZ HE
Ram housing.
- Install your Ram. If you are smart you are installing a New
DeSignz Slick Shot Ram at this time (click
for review).
- Put the bumper on the ram shaft.
If you forget this part it will really SUCK to have to take it apart
to fix.
- Next using a little loc-tite ( I would
use Red ) thread the hammer onto the ram shaft. Do not over
tighten the hammer onto the shaft. Only use light finger
pressure to screw the hammer onto the shaft. Screw the hammer
onto the shaft until it stops, do not try and twist it any further on
to the shaft. This would also be a good time to install a New
DeSignz Mid weight hammer or you other favorite aftermarket hammer.
- Let the loc-tite dry for a couple hours
before putting everything back together.
Does all of this sound a little too difficult?
How about this, the guys at New DeSignz also manufacturers a HE Ram
Assembly. This comes complete with a Slick Shot Ram Shaft and New
DeSignz Mid Weight SS Hammer already installed. Just remove your old
Ram Assembly, lube the New DeSignz HE Ram Assembly and install.
Nothing too difficult!!

NOTE: Initially after installing the HE Ram Housing I experienced some
slight First Shot Drop Off (FSDO). This was due to the new o-ring and a
little too much lube on the ram. After a couple hundred shots (nothing
significant) the lube was worked in and the o-ring lubed properly. I cleaned out
the back of the ram housing by removing the Rap and removing the excess
lube. After than all was great!! I only mention this as some people
do not understand the effects of breaking in new parts and the uneducated owner
might think that the HE Ram assembly was not working correctly, which is not
true.
