Bolt Chrono Test II
The Test
This is the second bolt comparison test.
Once again this test consisted of the aftermarket
bolts, eight this time. However this time the Stock bolt was not used
in the comparison (because I forgot it at home). The setup:
- A Vision Impulse was used with a
Angled High Flow Vertical (HFV) installed.
- The entire gun was cleaned and lubed, including the Max-Flow, prior to
the test.
- The Dwell was not adjusted once the test started.
- The output
pressure on the max-flow was set at 125psi to meet the low 250fps field
limit.
- For the test the air
source was a NitroDuck 90/4500 preset compressed air tank running on gun.
- The paint used
in the test was Big Ball (the new
paper like shell)
- The barrel was a 14" Freak with a .684 insert.

Best Performance
Taking the scores from Average FPS and
Standard Deviation and adding them together we should be able to see
which bolt is the best all around bolt from this test.

Conclusion
Comparing the results of this test to the
first test, the DEZign bolt (now bolts, plural) are still the most efficient
giving the highest FPS gains over all others.
The Equalizer bolt from New DeSignz was one
of the new bolts in this test and took the prize of most consistent.
However, the VooDoo bolt remained in second place even with more bolts
were tested and the MAXair that was originally in 1st place fell to a
close third.
In an effort to balance consistency with
efficiency the New DeSignz Equalizer bolt scores the highest. Second
is the DEZign Openface bolt and third is the IPB Undertow.
The HFV worked exactly the same as a VFF in
it's ability to add consistency to an Impulse.
Valve Caps DO have a performance advantage
and it's much greater than I originally expected. See Special Note
below.
Special Note:
I conducted one additional test.
Since the MAXair (new) was the last bolt to be tested (I did not test them
in alphabetical order) I degassed my Impulse and changed out my stock
Valve Cap for a New DeSignz High Volume Valve Cap (HVVC). I then
aired up, shot and recorded 20 additional shots. While I expected to see a
small increase in velocity, I was very surprised to see a little over
25fps increase in velocity.
Special thanks to Derrek "SG"
Phelps from Team Chill Factor for hanging out and recording the numbers while I
shoot my
Impulse over the chrono. |
